Adam Shostack was kind enough to mention my review of O'Harrow's book the other day.
He also caught that I linked the book name to Amazon using my new and exciting affiliate program URL (which means I'd get about a 5 percent cut if anyone bought the book after clicking through.)
Adam rightly calls this a tracking url and I should have labeled it as such. I'll figure out some notation for that in the future.
Now, I can't tell who clicked through, though I can find out how many did, or how people then purchased the book (but not who).
I guess if I knew more about my logs, I could try to figure out what IP address owner clicked through, but I ain't so interested.
Anyhow, I'm pleased to have been 'busted' by Adam, and it got me to thinking that this site has no privacy policy.
I'll post one soon, once I figure out how to create static pages in Movable Type (I grow more and more fond of that choice of names).
In the meantime, even though I collect little info (only what's in the logs, really), here's the operational privacy policy.
I will never sell, rent or transfer anyone's personal information to any third party, unless subpoenaed, in which case I will fight and publicize the subpoena to the full extent possible (sometimes those things come with gag orders).
I may post names of people who write in, unless they ask otherwise or are providing a confidential tip.
And those who write abusive missives may have their whole message published on the website.

» Does Ryan Singel Need A Privacy Policy? from Emergent Chaos
Yesterday, I commented that Ryan Singel, in his review of Robert O'Harrow's* new book, had an Amazon tracking URL. I was mostly noting the irony of aiding tracking in a post titled "Pay Cash for This Book," but Ryan... [Read More]
